I have one task this morning. That is to write this blog post. The internet is where I live and build the future. But these days things have got a bit overwhelming. There are so many bits of information to consume that its turning into TV. Remember that relic? They are trying to make it interactive but its TV.TV has run ...
AppCleaner is a great tool on the Mac. It helps you remove and clean up app files. As great as it is you have to keep an eye on what it’s going to delete. In the image above you can see its trying to nuke my Cookies folder when I was trying to delete the Kies app.My advice is delete 1 app at a time and carefully have a look at that list before you press that delete button.

Here are a few reasons I won’t be getting an iPhone 5 anytime soon.1. They never officially launched in Sri Lanka. So there is no official support for it. The phones that are here have been brought down in various ways and sold at various prices.I got mine down from Aussie which didn’t have any operator locks on it. Most other ...
You know, I’m glad Nokia went the other way. With the crazy colours.Bold accessories.Wireless charging. And Windows. There I said it. I like the new underdog Nokia. I respect the remix.

When you go to a Sampath Bank ATM and ask for 10,000LKR they give you 5 x 2000LKR notes. When you go to a Commercial Bank ATM and ask for 10,000LKR they give you 4 x 2000LKR, 1 x 1000LKR and 2 x 500LKR notes.Commercial gives you sensible defaults whereas at Sampath if you want change you have to ask for something like 11,500LKR.
Sri Lanka has a decent mobile industry. I have a requirement that I think many share, that maybe mobile operators can solve.I have a tab, a notebook and 2 mobile phones. Here is what I need.A data SIM for my tab.A data SIM and dongle for my notebook.2 voice sims with data for my phones.About 5GB shared data between all ...
Its getting a bit difficult to work with these power cuts. 3 hours in the middle of the day kills a lot of productivity. This is why I got a Macbook (35 watts) instead of a iMac (300 watts).Working with less resources and being offline maybe a good thing as well. Makes you focus on what really matters.

Just last week I was low on RAM.I managed to borrow 8GB from a work mate and here is the new look.Things are buzzing along quite nicely. Firefox just eats it all up if it can. Eclipse and Aptana seem to have the same startup time, but they are more responsive now.
Time Machine filled up my external drive after about 10 months of use. Its nice to know you can go all that way back but I needed some space for my other files.I found a way to delete old backups but I had to do it one at a time. Not very magical is it?My solution was to just start ...
This might be some weeks away. My iPhone 4 is practically a paper weight until then. Even with iOS 6 I’m not sure the no service issue will get fixed.Meanwhile I bought a HTC Wildfire S. Its a mid range Android device that hopefully doesn’t give me too much trouble.
I’m getting old. I can’t read small text without getting annoyed. Here are a few good sites I enjoy visiting because they are easy to read and look great. One thing well is a great readable site that shares mostly single purpose applications & tools.coderwall is a new social developer kind of site. Looks great gives you badges for sharing code ...
You can never have enough RAM. I was happy for about an year with 4GB but now things are crawling to a snails pace. I’ve cleaned up a bit but this screen is just with Chrome and Sparrow running. I haven’t started working yet!The max on this Mac is 8GB, I’m guessing that’s relatively cheap these days. Lets see.Site note: Figure out what that Java process is …
AppCleaner is one of those apps you never delete. It helps you clean up other apps. Its pretty good at what it does. It usually goes in and finds the app’s downloaded installer as well as residual property files. The only thing I’ve noticed is that if you select more than 1 app to delete it’ll get a bit confused and ...
I’ve been hit with a “No Service” issue on my iPhone 4. I’ve been trying all sorts of fixes in the last few weeks.I think my troubles began when I upgraded to iOS 5.1.1. Although there are ways to revert back I hadn’t kept a snapshot of the OS at 5.0.xYou have no idea how frustrating this is. First I ...

When I was compiling my last post I wanted to embed a tweet in my blog post. I found a nice plugin for that called Twitter Embed.Getting a Tweet’s permanent link wasn’t that straightforward, so I made a small video to show how. Also notice I’m picking the short code instead of the link, that’s what Twitter Embed needs.
