Since photography hasn’t brought in any cash for a couple years now, what actually pays the bills is graphic design and web design. So I’ve put together a portfolio site at www.rangadesilva.com I’ts kind of still a work in progress but it’s got most of my recent work on it. I will be adding more content along with the photography work as well to it.

Got back from an off-roading trip in Kumana with the guys from Enduro Lanka a couple of weeks ago and the bug bites are just beginning to heal. This is one of my favorite photographs from the trip. Nishantha hanging from the back of the Defender while the Hilux follows. More images are available on either the Enduro Lanka website or Facebook fan-page. Go take ...
Another sunrise photograph from the climb to Adams Peak on Sunday morning. The photograph doesn’t really do justice to the sight. You’ve really got to be there and witness it for your self to truly appreciate it. The sky all a sudden turns to a pail yellow out of the pitch black without any warning, then slowly a reddish glow and little by ...
Just got back from Adams Peak or Siripada last night. My legs are all soar and I can barely walk, but it was all worth it to get this photograph of people sitting on the steps watching the sunrise from the top of the mountain. Please note that all images in this blog are the property of the photographer. No one ...
This was taken on a hike into the Sinharaja rain forest in search of a waterfall through Kukulegama. The path led though a village and we ended up walking though someones front yard. We passed a couple of umbrellas not knowing that in a couple of hours we’d need an umbrella of our own. Please note that all images in this blog ...
This is a photograph of one of the many dogs that inhabit the Siripada Mountain. This one followed us from all the way from Ratnapura to the top and stayed up there all night and climbed back down with us the following day. I took this photograph during my last trip to Siripada almost four years ago during the ...
This somewhat large ship was operating inside the Trincomalee harbor acting as a mother ship to the dredger resting on top of it. The dredger does not have any engines thus is unable to propel itself. So the huge mother ship transports it to the desired spot on the harbor and unloads the dredger by submerging itself to allow the smaller tugboat seen at the bottom right on the ...
The view from Hoods Tower at the Trincomalee Naval base in Sri Lanka. Three stories tall and located on high ground overlooking the entrance to the harbor, Hoods Tower was used as a watchtower to guard against enemy ships buy the British. Now a tourist attraction run by the Sri Lanka Navy, gives visitors a good vantage point of the harbor ...
Took this last month in Diyatalawa when I was staying at the army bungalows with some friends. Underneath the thick mist is the Diyatalawa Army Camp. Please note that all images in this blog are the property of the photographer. No one may use these images without written permission from the photographer. The fact that it’s on the internet ...
Yes it’s been a while since I last uploaded anything. Now that work has gotten a bit less hectic I’ve been able to get some traveling done so I’ve got some new photographs to upload. Took this photograph of the sunrise over the Trincomalee harbor last week just before the rains came. Please note that all images in this blog are ...
Finally got a chance to get out of Colombo after ages. Even though it was for work, getting on a train and going somewhere, anywhere other than Colombo for any reason was a blessing. Didn’t take my D80 this time, instead used my phone cam (yes I finally have a phone with a camera) and played around with instagram. ...
I was on a camping trip two years ago in Horton Planes with some friends and on the last day we were treated to an awesome sunrise over the planes. We were camping in Campsite One which sits on a narrow valley between two hills. Once we woke up and saw the sky, everyone climbed up the hill to ...
Stumbled across some of the photographs these guys have been taking by mounting their camera on a miniature RC car. It’s quite an ingenious idea though not without it’s risks to the camera but much safer than having to kneel down in front on a lion to take its picture. Take a look at their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BLphotography?ref=pb) for photos and videos from the Beetle Cam. ...
A photograph of moss growing on a tree in Horton Planes. The cold damp weather on the planes provides the ideal conditions for moss to grow. Some more colorful. I’ve accumulated a vast collection of moss photographs from my trips to Hortom Planes which I hope to edit and upload gradually. Please note that all images in this blog are the property of the ...
I was traveling to Kandy a couple of years back, on my way to Riverston with my friends. We decided to take the bus from Panadura to Kandy and take another series of buses to get to Riverston. This was taken at the start of the journey at 5am from the Panadura to Kandy bus off Koralawella past Panadura and just ...
Our vehicles weren’t the only things getting stuck on the muddy tracks in the Kumana jungle. Every now and then one of us would sink down into the mud and would need a helping hand to get out. This is one of the photographs featured on the book Jungle Journeys published by Enduro Lanka. Please note that all images in this ...
Ok last month Enduro Lanka contacted me and said that they decided print a limited number of books titled Jungle Journeys which will consist of a photo essay by myself and Sankha Wanniatchi on some of the teams journeys in the Eastern jungles of Sri Lanka. So for the last month I have been busy designing and then getting the ...
With the current workload it has been a bit difficult to keep the blog up to date lately. But I thought that I would somehow get a picture up today. This photograph was taken inside the buduge (shrine room) at the Pokunuwita Raja Maha Viharaya a couple of years ago. It’s in that collection of photographs where I’ve saved on the hard drive ...
