There was an ice carving event during the weekend. Unfortunately we got late and missed the demonstrations part, but there were many sculptures to look at. I saw a demonstration sometime back, and it's amazing to see those guys work. There was an award winning chef from Sri Lanka also, now living in Toronto, who is also an amazing carver. ...
Found this on FB, worth a read.*******************************************************************************An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, ...

I just figured how to solve most of the world's problems. Let kids be in charge of it. Think about it.Kids have wild imagination and great ideas. They are not restrained by limitations created by adults.Kids speak their mind. They haven't learned the concept of talking behind ones back.Kids love animals and the environment.Kids love unconditionally, and they love everybody.Kids ...
My taste in fiction has always been mainly towards mystery, horror with a smattering of fantasy and comedy thrown in. Literary fiction or dramatic type fiction has never been interesting for me, but recently this has been shifting. The culprit for this change is Khaled Housseini’s book “The Kite Runner”. I saw part of the movie and picked the book ...
I have been neglecting the old blog lately. Life and its problems tend to throw a wrench into cogs and disrupt the normalcy. However, there is no point in wallowing in them. Dust it off and move
Yep, I'm back in SL, and the first thing was trip to Nuwaraeliya. It was actually a spur of the moment thing. Couple of friends got together for a drinks on Friday night and decided to go on Saturday. IMO those are the best kind of trips :). In my experience, if you plan these things too much, you'll never get anywhere.
The 16 Days campaign carried out by the Women and Media Collective against gender based violence is a great initiative. Violence against women and children are a problem in Sri Lanka, but not one that is talked about much. Kudos to all the people who are working hard to provide solutions to this problem and help those who are victimized. To ...
Image from http://kaynou.files.wordpress.comA sequence that will come once in every century. It's definite that we won't be here to see the next one. So I thought I'd see what important things happened on this day.The most important one is that this was the day when the first world war came to an end with the signing of the armistice between ...
Found on FB :)It's very difficult to react calmly to angry situations, but it's better than saying or doing something in anger that you will regret later. It won't come easy, you have to practice at being patient.Cheers!
Misty MountainsOur lives run through the world like white water rapids, fast and furious. Focused solely on the end goal, and never noticing the calm and serenity of the shores on either side. If ever you decide to step on to the shor
One of my friends from school got married over the weekend in Galle. His bride is Polish, so the whole thing was a western styled one. That was one of the reasons he wanted to have it in Galle. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding at Jetwing Era in Unawatuna. The best thing about it was that there was only 80 ...
The event I've been most looking forward to since I got here, the 2012 Canadian International Auto Show. We spent the whole day there and by the end, we were even too tired to take pics. Taking pics is also a challenge because there are too many people. I hate taking pics when there are people around.Selection of pics below. ...
Isn't it sad that life of cattle has become more important than human life in this country? How many people are murdered each day? Home many women and children raped or molested? How much property stolen? How many families suffer because they are poor? How many innocents destroyed? Crimes against humans are on the rise every day, and perpetrators are ...
When you've worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity…you do not slam it shut behind you…you reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed.- Michelle Obama
