She gazed at the foams, as the rush of the ferry parting the deep blue sea formed endless mini rainbows in between the spray of the water. She reminds herself not everything can be captured digitally. Somethings have to be enjoyed in the moment and then it is gone, forever a memory etched in to the brain. To her these ...
“A portrait is not a likeness. The moment an emotion or fact is transformed into a photograph it is no longer a fact but an opinion. There is no such thing as inaccuracy in a photograph. All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth. ” ~ Richard Avedon"
So, I've been playing around with the same old apps on Android lately and can't seem to understand why we need to be running multiple apps that pretty much do the same thing, thus effectively draining our phone batteries and increasing our data charges. This is how I feel about the following apps - (Used and tested on both Android and ...
Train travels, who can resist them? It is the most magical way to travel, provided you have a lot of time to do it. I won't lie, I'm pretty crazy about them.
It's been a while since I last made kottu. It only takes a few ingredients. Quite messy though. You can even make elawalu rotti, if you're in the mood by following the instructions here.Basically, you start with making the godamba rotti, and then cutting it in to pieces Stir fry ingredients as you please - I used chicken, eggs, carrot, onion ...

A quick google search for any recipe leads to a multitude of search results these days, and I like to try out different ones. After a couple of experiments, I decided this recipe shared on a blog I found is really the easiest, fastest way to make dinner rolls in 30 mins. Basically I'm just cutting and pasting the same ...
I was reading a blog post I came across, about discrimination against Tamils at the Omanthai check point. It reminded me of my own experience travelling to Jaffna on the bus.I was asleep. Woken up as the bus slowed down. I have an NIC card. I don't know what I look like. Or sound like. Especially around 2am, groggy and tired.I ...
The 3D movie experience in Sri Lanka, sadly is such a disappointment.Let me confess, first of all, I am not much of a 3D movie person to begin with. So, of course my expectations are pretty low. But my most recent experience of Iron Man in 3D at the Majestic Cinema (4th floor), and then Star Trek 3D at the ...
We all have our personal opinions about what Channel 4 has been doing. After all, what good has it really done, rather than hurt all communities in our country and just made headlines. We know, they know, they are in the business of sensationalizing the news. How much they REALLY care, is anybodies guess. When they bravely venture in to Sri ...
I'll be honest. I've been reading all the articles appearing all over the internet, and Monday morning is beginning to seem very gloomy. My naturally hopeful and optimistic self is beginning to falter. What do i believe? I want to be fair. I want to be reasonable. I want to give Sri Lanka the benefit of the doubt. Defend ourselves, ...
I know I go against the Buddhist philosophy of the simple life when I say this. BUT. Is it really so bad to want to enjoy meals? A couple of things I am troubled by us Sri Lankans, when it comes to food and drink is -1) Quantity over quality I feel like far too many of us value quantity ...
It's been ages since I've been around in the blog-o-sphere.Where is everyone? I feel like I'm in an empty room, and there is no furniture so the sounds all echo bouncing off the empty spaces.Have we all grown up? I read my past blog posts and have to fight the urge to delete them all. What terrible writing, droning ...
When I say travel, I really mean moving. For good. It's something I thought carefully about, hoped I would eventually be able to do again and was pleasantly surprised all the necessary factors fell in to place. So, I did. Quit my job. Got on a plane. Here I am, couple weeks later, securely settling in, enjoying new employment and ...
So, what is this I hear, WhatsApp purchased by FB for $16B?Wonderful. One less app that does the same thing. I wonder what Facebook plans to do with it.Once upon a time, I tried to jot down how I felt about multiple apps that do the same thing, and to this day WhatsApp can only still message and not make ...
It has certainly been a while. I've realized I tend to compose blog posts in my head. These posts are very fleeting. They come and go, perhaps the best ones though, properly thought out and jotted down, instead of those crazy rants that go on and on.So. What do we have to catch up on? Aluthgama. What a mummer's farse. ...
One of my most favourite simple food combinations has always been baked beans on toast. Add some marmite, kraft cheese on to it, it is the best. I've also tried provolone cheese slices (make sure the cheese can melt - so the baked beans need to be heated well) and toast is warm too. Best food ever.
A simple Google search yields:"Sri Lanka's population has a literacy rate of 92%, higher than that expected for a third world country; it has the highest literacy rate in South Asia and overall, one of the highest literacy rates in Asia."Sri Lankans have been proud of this statistic for as long as I can remember. I was reading this article ...
I did it. Imagine meeting someone and they say, "I'm not on facebook." I've envied those people. Even felt awe and respect. How do they do it, I wondered. Facebook just celebrated ten years a few weeks ago. They've become a giant in social media. It is the largest space where a large group of humans voluntarily forgo some of ...
