A quick google search for any recipe leads to a multitude of search results these days, and I like to try out different ones. After a couple of experiments, I decided this recipe shared on a blog I found is really the easiest, fastest way to make dinner rolls in 30 mins. Basically I'm just cutting and pasting the same ...
I met a lady who has a snow globe collection and I marvelled at them. How pretty and colourful. Such a sight of pleasantness that brings a smile. With just a touch of wistfulness. Who would've ever thought snow globes would make me sad. The thought itself makes me even sadder. Is it the memories? Of innocence lost? I remind ...
We're travelling to and from things all the time. I suppose in a way we're all time travellers and memories are what take us back and forth. The good, the bad and the ugly, if you will. I really have a lot of little adventures I want to share as posts and will try to do that in the next ...
Weekends are especially good. Especially when staring deeply in to premonition like reflections in my morning coffee/chocolate mocha I pretend is really tea on a Thursday morning. I realise how impatiently I anticipate Fridays. And eagerly welcome the weekend. The match is going well. We're going to win. The Mister is happy, once in a while commenting on how silly ...
The Mister has been sick. It started with a text message lamenting the fact he was slowly dying. Then as the day increased his lamentations of impending doom grew and I ended up going home early just to spend a few hours more attending to him.It is curious how the common cold affects us all in different ways. Dare I ...
Well it's been a pretty good month, folks. The second month of 2014 already gone by. Eyes and arms wide open for March. Need to prioritise and be more productive next month. Time is too short. Let's do it!
I have been around cameras ever since I was a child. Yet, a fascination over taking photographs as a hobby came on a school trip to Anuradhpura a very long time ago. Things were not digital then. I remember looking ridiculous in my school uniform with my fathers large canon camera around my. Heavy but the highlight of my trip. ...
It doesn't matter where you are in the world, the sight of the sky is all you need to feel rejuvenated. Recharged. Thankful to be alive.Ready to face yet another entire week of the same routine, over and over again. Just to do the same chores over the weekend to wake up again on Monday. Still for all, this sunrise is what reminds you of why we are alive. Good morning, world!
It seems a sorry state of affairs when one reads about a child who commits suicide because of how she was disciplined at school. She left a heartbreaking note behind explaining herself and the injustice she felt. It breaks my heart to know the school system, decades after we went through it ourselves, has not changed. The crime a child ...
I did it. Imagine meeting someone and they say, "I'm not on facebook." I've envied those people. Even felt awe and respect. How do they do it, I wondered. Facebook just celebrated ten years a few weeks ago. They've become a giant in social media. It is the largest space where a large group of humans voluntarily forgo some of ...
So, what is this I hear, WhatsApp purchased by FB for $16B?Wonderful. One less app that does the same thing. I wonder what Facebook plans to do with it.Once upon a time, I tried to jot down how I felt about multiple apps that do the same thing, and to this day WhatsApp can only still message and not make ...
I wish I could do a picture a day for 365 days. Or keep at anything for a long stretch of time. Stick to one book. I'm almost 80% of the first Game of Thrones book. But I'm worried I should be reading more substantial books, with history and knowledge in them, instead of mediaeval make believe fantasy. The NPR ...
Frozen in time, if I was asked to describe you and methis momentI am lost for wordsthe cellos and piano violins and flutes and yet, comfortable silence the music between ussteady and strong aware only thatthis is eternitya once in a lifetime impossible oddsincredible luckdare I say, love.
A recipe originally discovered in a kids cook book in my childhood, it has come a long way. Since then I've been able to experiment with various ingredients and this is one variation of the home made meatballs and Bologna that really is quite yummy and no that difficult to make. You need - Minced chicken or beef (meat of ...
It's hard to keep track of the important things in life sometimes. Especially when things get busy and the day to day grind really keeps your nose to the ground. There is something about the hot chocolate though. Perhaps it's the nostalgia. The memories. A symbol of what it means, and the idea that you are never alone, when you ...
It's been a while since I last made kottu. It only takes a few ingredients. Quite messy though. You can even make elawalu rotti, if you're in the mood by following the instructions here.Basically, you start with making the godamba rotti, and then cutting it in to pieces Stir fry ingredients as you please - I used chicken, eggs, carrot, onion ...
The idea of 'daana' and altruism, I wonder if these two acts are really the same.Daana, or alms giving, within the context of which I speak is based off of the idea the more you give, the more you get. The act of doing something that can accumulate good karma, with the hope this life and the next can be ...
I refused to celebrate independence this year. I wasn't really feeling it. No, not even the facebook displays of the flag and patriotism could get to me. What independence, my head keeps asking no one in particular.Someone said, independence from the British, of course. Snort. Really? We are, as a nation still not over having been a colony, we either ...
She doesn't care for appearances, having just woken up from her sleep. Dazed. Confused by reality when it sunk in, different from her emotions a few seconds ago in her dream. She switches the computer on, trembling. Dialing a number she had been told not to call anymore."Hello." Cold, nothing there. "Are we done?".."yes." "But we kissed in my dream and ...
One of my most favourite simple food combinations has always been baked beans on toast. Add some marmite, kraft cheese on to it, it is the best. I've also tried provolone cheese slices (make sure the cheese can melt - so the baked beans need to be heated well) and toast is warm too. Best food ever.
