Time Didn't Solve, It Dissolved Everything

I didn't let my heart decide
for many things in my life.
When I first met you,
it silently craved you,
though my brain advised
never to lead with the heart
and not to say 'Yes' to your
cordial request for a relationship.

You craved me immensely
and tried your best
several times to convince
that you needed me in your life.
I still refused because
my brain took the lead,
knowing the way I suffered
in the past due to love.

Upon my refusal,
you swiftly moved on and
settled with the wrong one.
You got yourself bruised,
never to turn back
and love again, not even me.
You chose to save yourself
from heartbreaks thereafter.

We started meeting,
hoping to rekindle the time lost.
Spending those days together,
I fell for you, and fell really hard.
I observed you, studied you,
and realised we were too far apart,
though we sat, stood, and walked,
right next to each other.

You didn't return to your old self.
You said you'd never love again.
You asked for time to heal.
You neither felt the same way
about me nor yourself.
You slowly drifted away,
though you enjoyed the company.
You’re no longer the one I loved.

I always gave you more,
though you didn't want me.
I always hoped you'd turn around
and choose me over others.
Yet, you crushed on others and
decided to tie the knot with another.
As I waited and fought my best,
someone else effortlessly got you.
