Fairfirst Insurance eased to a 5-wicket win over MODE Engineering in their quarter-final encounter played today at FTZ Sports Complex (BOI) in Katunayake.

Due to the prevailing weather conditions, the match was reduced to 47 overs per side. MODE Engineering opted to bat first after winning the toss but bowled out for 165 runs inside 28 overs.

The opening batter Niroshan Dickwella lit up the show with an enterprising knock – 86 runs off 63 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Asel Sigera, Thanuka Dabare and Koshan Jayawickrama stood out with the ball picking up 3 wickets each for Fairfirst Insurance.

Anuk Fernando (47) and Asel Sigera (29*) starred with the bat as Fairfirst Insurance cruised to the victory in the 28th over with 5 wickets in hand.

National capped all-rounder Dhananjaya De Silva’s all-around heroics helped CDB Finance – A register a thrilling 2-run win over BBK Partnership in their quarter-final encounter worked off today at MCA Grounds, Colombo.

After been put into bat first, CDB Finance was restricted to 190 runs thanks to a brilliant spell (7/32) by Kamalarasa Iyalarasan. However, BBK Partnership also struggled with the bat as they were bowled out for 188 falling just short of 2 runs off the target.

De Silva who made a useful knock with the bat earlier in the day, came up with a match-winning bowling performance, picking up 3 wickets for 19 runs in his 10-over spell.

The other two quarter-final encounters (CL Synergy Limited vs Hatton National Bank, John Keells vs Hayleys – A) were abandoned due to rain. However, CL Synergy Limited and Hayleys – A secured their places in the semi-final encounters based on the first-round points.

Hayleys – A had finished the first round in 2nd place with 17 points while CL Synergy had accumulated 16 points, taking the 4th place in the points table.
