Mahinda College earn major honours in a traditional clash against St. Thomas’ College, Matara, while S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia battled it out in another traditional encounter today (21) against Ananda College.

Batting first, Mahinda College scored 300 runs after seeing off an entire day of the game. Pramesh Madhubhashana, the star of the innings, played a magnificent knock of 124 runs off 194 deliveries. His stylish stay at the centre saw 13 boundaries and 2 maximums in its existence.

He was also very well aided by his fellow batter Hiruna Gallage, who managed to notch up 94 runs to his merits. He saw off a substantial amount of deliveries – 179 deliveries – in his innings, with 9 out of them running to the boundary and one going over it.

There was no remarkable bowling performance from the St. Thomas’ College, Matara bowlers to show for, as the best figures read 2 for 33 from Sanju Dilshan.

It was a nightmare at the centre for the boys from Matara as they toiled very hard just to get almost half the score of their opponent. After 63.1 overs of torture, all of the St. Thomas’ College batters were put of their misery as the team was all out for 159 runs.

It was when the skies opened out and it poured out for the rest of the evening that the Thomians were saved from having to go out and bat again in the follow on.

Kaveen Rukshan and Tharusha Dilshan of Mahinda College picked up 4 wickets each to uphold Mahinda’s dominance in this game.

Up here in Colombo, the school by the sea hosted Ananda College. The visitors were undone for 193 runs in 65.1 overs. Wicketkeeper batsman Viduna Wijebandara was the top scorer for Ananda with 61 runs to his name, while Charuka Peiris ended with 5 scalps to boast for.

Thisen Eheliyagoda led the Thomian reply with 69 runs up at the top of the order, while minor contributions from each player of the team helped the host to push for 226 runs in their first innings.

Ruvishan Perera and Kithma Sithmal picked up 4 wickets each for Ananda College.

The 3rd innings of this game was a mere formality in which Ananda College had made 102 runs at close of play.
