Sri Lanka’s senior batter Angelo Mathews has been ruled out of the ongoing first Test match against Australia having tested positive for Covid-19.

Mathews was feeling unwell yesterday at the end of second day’s play in Galle and therefore the team management has conducted a Rapid Anti-Gen Test (RAT) which came out positive.

Accordingly, Mathews has been isolated from the rest of the team members and is following necessary Covid-19 protocols. Mathews made a fighting 39 off 71 balls with 3 fours in the first innings.

Batter Oshada Fernando has been named as the Covid-19 replacement for Sri Lanka and will bat in the 2nd innings.

Sri Lanka seamer Asitha Fernando claimed the last two wickets on day three morning as Australians were bowled out for 321, giving them a 109-run first innings lead.
