Sri Lanka U19s registered a massive 128-run victory over the Ireland U19s in their first warm-up game of the ICC U19 World Cup 2022.

Being put to bat first, the Lankan youth posted a competitive 233 runs on the board in their allotted 43 overs.

Opener Shevon Daniel played a very positive knock of 75 runs before retiring to give opportunities to the rest. He was on a roll right from the start of the innings as he enjoyed carving the new ball into vacant areas.

There wasn’t any other extraordinary batting performance in the innings as the next best score was 33 runs made by Ranuda Somarathne

With the cushion of having runs on board, the Lankan bowlers undid the Irishmen quite comfortably for just 105 runs.

Left-arm spinner Wanuja Sahan was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets to his name while Raveen de Silva, Matheesha Pathirana and Chamindu Wickramasinghe picked up 2 wickets each.

Wicket-keeper batter Joshua Cox was the highest run-maker for Ireland as he scored a tedious 44 runs only to watch the other end crumble with only two other batters making it to double figures.

Sri Lanka will next play their second and final warm-up game against Uganda U19s tomorrow, 12th January, at the same venue in Guyana. The match will begin at 7.30 pm, Sri Lankan time.
