5 Movies To Watch In November (2021).

This post is by Sandaru Munasinghe.

Cinemas are open and you know what that means, it’s time to grab the popcorn and hit the movies with your loved ones and friends (even alone, who are we to judge?). The month of November looks like a blockbuster addition to this COVID struck year for movies. So here are 5 movies to watch out for this month.

Dune (2021) IMDB – 8.2 / Rotten Tomatoes – 82 % (Sci-Fi)

Dune (2021) is a remake of the 1984 classic of the same name. This time presented through the extravagantly cinematographic eyes of Denis Villeneuve who gave us masterpieces like Blade Runner 2049 and The Arrival. Dune follows the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a young man who's on his journey to fulfil his destiny and to protect his planet by travelling to the most dangerous planet in the universe.

This movie consists of a star-studded cast consisting of Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac and Javier Bardem. From what we gathered from the trailer, the movie looks like a visual masterclass which is a common antic of Villeneuve. On the other hand, the early movie reviews state that the movie has a very strong and endearing plot to keep you on the edge of your seats that was expounded by the 8-minute standing ovation at the Premiere of the movie at the Venice Film Festival. The movie is now showing in cinemas.

Eternals (2021) IMDB – 6.5 / Rotten Tomatoes – 54 % (Action/Adventure)

Eternals is the newest addition to the ever-growing world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and takes a step out of the conventional Marvel Universe and focuses on an untouched area. It follows a group of celestial beings who have been living on earth in secret for thousands of years.

The movie is directed by the 2020 Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (for her movie Nomadland). The cast is extremely star-studded with Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani and Game of Thrones heart-throbs — Kit Harington and Richard Madden. Chloe Zhao has brought a different perspective into Marvel Movies with a prestige style outlook to the movie, but according to early reviews, the movie has fallen heavily short of expectations as the approach is not the best suit for the marvel universe. Amidst the bad reviews, Eternals still performed well in the cinemas, as it's indeed a beautiful cinematic experience. It's now showing in cinemas.

No Time To Die (2021) IMDB – 7.5 / Rotten Tomatoes 84% (Action/Adventure)

“ Bond, James Bond” — one of the most iconic lines in movie history will be uttered for the last time on screen by Daniel Craig, who's viewed to be one of the best to portray the world-renowned spy in No Time To Die. It will be the 25th addition to one of the longest-running movie series. No Time To Die is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga who takes the reins of the movie series from Sam Mendes. This movie will be based on James Bond as usual, and on his heroics to save the world against a quite enigmatic Bond Villain portrayed by the brilliant Rami Malek, whilst focusing on the emotional depth of the movie series with Bond’s muse Madeline Swann portrayed by Léa Seydoux. In fact, she reprises her role after Spectre, and Ana De Armas comes into the mix of iconic Bond Girls. The movie came to the local cinemas on the 12th of November.

A Quiet Place Part II (2020) IMDB – 7.7 / Rotten Tomatoes 91% (Horror/Thriller)

The silent but spine-tingling second edition of Quiet Place returns to the cinemas to keep you on the edge of your seat. For those who have not watched Quiet Place 1, the movie follows the Abbot family through an extraterrestrial attack where the creatures prey on the sound made by the victims, which bring us a silent but enthralling experience with just a few words spoken in the script. The movie also sees a new addition to the cast with Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy as Emmet. Early reviews suggest that the movie has not lost its glow from the first movie and is extremely entertaining. This one hits local cinemas on the 19th of November.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife  (2021) IMDB – 7.9 / Rotten Tomatoes 76% (Fantasy/Comedy)

Ghostbusters is considered a cult classic and it is back for another run after the successful spin-off that came out in 2016 with an all-female cast. Ghostbusters: Afterlife follows a story of passing down the legacy of the Original Ghostbusters to their grandchildren. The movie also acts as a metaphor for passing down the legacy as the movie’s director Jason Reitman is in fact, the son of Ivan Reitman — the director of the original Ghostbusters movies from the 1980s. The cast of the movie consists of Paul Rudd and Stranger Things’s very own Finn Wolfhard. The movie hits cinemas on the 19th of November.
