A father is indeed the man who supplies light when it is dark, shelter when it is cold as ice or hot as fire, strength when it is weak, to the family. If the family is a bed of flowers, the father is the shining sun that helps all the flowers bloom. The flowers bloom as long as the sun shines but when the sun sets no doubt the flowers fade. A father is a son’s first hero, a daughter’s first love. A man is perfect when he enters fatherhood.
Mothers are appreciated often by children. But sometimes they tend to forget the foundation of the family, the rock that holds the family, who is none other than the mentor of the family, the father. So it is the responsibility of all children to appreciate, give honor and show love to this great personality. This role model of the family is annually honored on a Sunday in the month of June.
For the year 2021 Father’s Day falls on June 20th. Sonora Smart Dodd initiated the idea of a Father’s Day first. Sonora’s father, a civil war veteran was a single parent who raised six children. To appreciate the sacrifices done by her father, she promoted to celebrate Father’s Day on her father’s birthday which was not a success. But it is she who paved the way to this glorious day’s celebrations. Later the United States president Woodrow Wilson who went to speak at a Father’s Day celebration in 1916 wanted to make it official but the congress resisted. In 1966, US President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the 3rd Sunday in June as father’s day. In 1972, the day was made a permanent national holiday and signed into law by US President Richard Nixon. It is now a cherished celebration for millions of people around the world.
May everyone felicitate this great individual all throughout his life journey and especially on this date dedicated to him. Indeed, he is a father to the world but the world to his family.
