Sadeera, Priyamal, Dhananjaya & Muditha shine as Domestic T20 kicks off in style

The 26-team SLC Major Club T20 Tournament 2020/21 began today with 16 teams in action. Four matches concluded the morning session while four other encounters were worked off as evening sessions at various venues in Colombo.

The encounter between Navy SC and Ragama CC ended in a thrilling finish as the low scoring affair went down to the wire with the lads from Ragama finally getting over the line in the 18th over winning by 4 wickets. The fast bowling all-rounder Ishan Jayaratne stood out with the ball taking 3 scalps for 20 runs for Ragama CC.

Pramud Hettiwatte’s all-round efforts and Muditha Lakshan’s brilliant 73-run knock helped the Nugegoda Sports & Welfare Club register a 25-run win over the strong outfit Badureliya Cricket Club. SSC and NCC as expected dominated their encounters against Kalutara Town Club and Bloomfield Cricket Club respectively. 

Right-handed batsman Krishan Sanjula (52) and Sri Lanka capped leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay (3/25) were the pioneers of SSC’s win while top-order batsman Hasitha Boyagoda (38) and right arm seamer Chamika Gunasekara (3/04) starred in NCC’s comprehensive victory. 

Right arm seamer Shiran Fernando of Tamil Union CC shone with the ball picking up 3 wickets for 17 runs restricting Army CC for 104 runs. Tamil Union batsmen led by Sadeera Samarawickrama (52) chased down the target with ease losing only 4 wickets.

Dhananjaya Lakshan, the rising star in Sri Lankan cricket who plays for Colts CC continued to impress with the ball as he bagged 3 wickets for 17 runs against Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Another prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket, Priyamal Perera stood out with the bat scoring an unbeaten 64 runs in Colts’ run chase. 

Collective bowling effort from CCC led by Lahiru Gamage (2/06), Lahiru Madushanka (2/07), Malinda Pushpakumara (2/12) and Ashan Priyanjan (2/25) steered them to an easy 8-wicket victory over Galle CC. 

Kurunegala YCC managed to shock renowned Chilaw Marians CC defeating them by 16 runs in a closely fought encounter between the two sides. Dhanushka Dharmasiri (53) and Gayan Maneeshan (42) set the foundation for the victory with the bat which was well backed up by the bowlers led by Nimasara Atharagalla  (4/26) and Lahiru Jayaratne (2/24).
