Dhammika Sudharshana appointed head coach of Sri Lanka U19 team

Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed Dhammika Sudharshana, as the head coach of the Sri Lanka U19 team till the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2022 in West Indies.

He was selected as a batting coach at Sri Lanka’s high-performance centre in early 2020 only to be promoted to his current position shortly.

The 44-year old is a heavily acclaimed coach in Sri Lanka and had a 10-year long tenure at Richmond College, Galle, during which he won 3 big matches for the school against their arch-rivals Mahinda College, Galle. 

Richmond was at their rock-bottom with the team almost nearing relegation from division-one cricket when Sudharshana took charge. Within the next 10 years, the school won 6 championships and also produced several world-class cricketers for Sri Lanka.

Dhananjaya de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga, Charith Asalanka, Kamindu Mendis, and Dhananjaya Lakshan are all proud products of Dhammika Sudharshana. He has also produced several other youth and first-class cricketers to the system. 

Sudharshana was a right-handed opening batsman who has scored over 5000 runs in his 129 first-class matches.
