The 29-year-old has had minor issue with his wrist since last year but since he was busy playing all 3 formats for the national team, the call was taken to keep playing and put off the necessary surgery. With international and domestic cricket calendars freeing up due to the COVID19 pandemic, De Silva has finally had the opportunity to undergo the surgery.

Sri Lanka head coach Mickey Arthur has responded to De Silva’s successful surgery on his tweets, saying ‘Glad all went well Dhananjaya, we will have you batting and bowling in no time!’.

The all-rounder has been one of the most consistent performers for Sri Lanka through all 3 formats with the bat and his part-time off-spin. He has represented Sri Lanka in 92 matches so far and accumulated more than 3000 runs while being responsible for 48 wickets.
