Lanka Premier League postponed

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to reschedule the commencement date of the ‘Lanka Premier League’ (LPL) to meet the requirements of the quarantine requirements stipulated by the Government of Sri Lanka. 

Accordingly, the commencement of the LPL, which was scheduled to start on the 14th of November 2020 will be shifted to 21st November 2020. This move is said to have been taken to ensure that participating players have adequate time to meet ‘the Quarantine Requirements,’ as per the Government’s health regulations.

Since the Indian Premier League will end on 10th November, this decision is also aimed at giving an opportunity for the players taking part in that league to make it to the LPL.

The Tournament Director of LPL , Mr. Ravin Wickramaratne said, “Since the IPL will go until the 10th of November, we thought to keep some space for the players taking part in the IPL, and who wish to make it to the LPL to take part in the tournament”

The player draft for LPL which was originally scheduled to take place on 1st of October has been shifted to 9th October. Only one team has been announced officially, with Quetta Gladiators’ owners from the PSL buying the Galle based franchise ‘Galle Gladiators’.
