Migrant fishers issues

Migrated fisheries issue is one of the major issues in the fisheries industry  in Jaffna. After the war, numbers of southern fisherman migrate to the northern sea for fishing. There was a traditional migration system between North and South. There was a common understanding and agreement between the northern and southern fishing communities in harvesting in the northern sea specially but southern fisherman migrate to northern sea without concerning the traditional rules. There is a high potential to get a large harvest in the northern sea after the war. Northern fisherman does not satisfy due to the migration of the southern fisherman into north. Security forces also support to the southern fisherman to engage with fishing industry in the north. This issue has been happening since after the war. It has organzed  a struggle against  the migration of southern fisherman into northern sea. Northern fishing communities organized a protest in front of AGA officer in Maradankeni on 14 of June 2020. The campaigners handed over a petition in relation the issues to the Assistant Government Agent ( AGA) after the protest.
