Sri Lanka – Baghdad by the Sea or Monster Island, Godzilla Will Save Us!

My deepest sympathies and condolences to those who lost loved ones or were injured in the Terror bombings while they prayed at Easter Service or as they had breakfast in Sri Lanka.  The news, pictures and videos, are heart rending and sorrowful, again.

We have growing evidence about the people who committed the atrocity and some of their compulsions.  That part home grown – Sri Lankans, it seems.  What we are making up so far, was who, if anyone  from outside led them to these terrible acts?  Is there the shadowy hand of some powerful nation or is it, as claimed by ISIS,  a franchise activity for fame and greater glory to win more adherents. Terribly sad, and a group admitted, yes, we did this for… that part seems made up along the way.

The terribly sad events in the Palestinian West Bank and Gaza and the war to end wars, the war on terror,  undeclared wars in Sudan, Yemen and many other places, planning war on Iran makes some people who obtain information about related events, seethe in self-righteous anger.  It seems to make them want to do “something” and make the doers of the terrible injustices pay. There was the cold war that caused its own mayhem. And before that there were wars for causes that were lost to the dust of the wars and revived and breathed life into, in some case, by scholars and historians after the dust settled.  Sometimes, the dust could be stirred and from it,  new wars could be started. Water, land, riches from the ground,  the very dirt itself,  was fought over. Later it could be stirred and poked leading to wars.  People died.

This reasoning of sorts has led to carnage in some parts of the world.  Terrorism, says one side, yes, you! says both sides and people die, killed in their homes, or as they relax or go about their business in cities and towns.  Others join in the mayhem, using tactics borrowed from one group and used to push along some agenda.  Our kind, our type, our ways, and you wronged us, now, yesterday, in the year dot, or you look like you plan to do harm directly, indirectly, sideways, to us, our friends, our allies, even our enemies, and done without our say so.  The who of the we, sounds like a sudden gust of wind blowing through some forest stand.  But killing, that it does.

War making was and is an  industry of sorts. We have made the industry so much better, so much more frightening that now, small wars and demolition is also a part of the industry. Drug wars, commercial wars, our wars and their wars. Maybe it always was. It is in Sri Lanka. It was for thirty long years. It became an industry.

Sri Lanka is nice, green and lush in the center and south west and most of the rest. Sandy beaches, nice, and whales! Not Scottish nor skittish.

Some Sri Lankans have hungered for the Big picture life, wanted to matter in High places, talked about, or fought over, because we are so .. whatever, as long as we mattered, and we were talked about, written about.    Others came to Lanka and often, like we said, found it nice, and stayed and did things they liked in their ways and, lo, the Lankans who knew  adopted some of their ways and preened over those who were slow or not willing to put a pinky up while holding a cup of brownish foul tasting water, or did not drink amber colored spirits,  or got their F mixed with their P! Chee Aney!

And now here we are,  important, world shattering!  We who defeated that which could not be defeated, everyone said so, can’t be defeated, must be appeased, land divided, shared, given, but we defeated them. Stripes, dots and all. Turned out a little messy, we did it our way.  Some folk in powerful nations seemed unhappy.  People have problems, we must solve our own problems first before taking care to solve theirs. But.

Buts are important.  If we don’t take care  of the buts, shit happens as they say. We offended the powerful outside, who wanted us to do it their way, as did some people within the country.  Un-striping Tigers must and should be done their way, which for long periods, seemed no way at all. And we did it. Hooray.

First price, ISIS?

And now, King Kong is in the back yard! yes, in Sri Lanka! ISIS is, not the HQ but a franchise operation of it, branch office,  hopefully it will stop there. The alternative is too horrible to think of. Some people will say I am expressing things I have not thought through.

When a runaway truck is coming at you, it is no small feat to be bothering about the alcohol level of the driver. It is not the time for it. Jump out of harm’s way!

So did Sri Lanka  jump out of the way? Out of the way of the looming Islamic militancy and with it, that other thing, Terror franchise? Maybe not.  Did it take all precautions?  Check no, on that too.  Are there people in high places wringing hands, saying I did not know, I was not told, I am firing those people who should have done something?  Checks are bouncing!

Not funny!

No swords. People in authority in Sri Lanka, don’t fall on their swords, no swords,  no falling, although some swords were found in raids after the terror attack, but not in the places of high officers, and  none was kept for falling on if the high officers bring dishonor to themselves and their high office. No such luck, we are modern.  Plausible deniability, we did nothing wrong!  Responsibility is distributed! Some people resign when asked to, that is fired without fire only smoke.

And here we are! Welcome King Kong to Sri Lanka!  Or maybe it is, King Kong was looking for a home. Always looking for new places to visit.  And in Sri Lanka just a kid brother at the moment.  Advance party, just checking out the new digs!

Should we entice or implore Godzilla to come to our aid? Godzilla knows, Godzilla cares! For us?  For us! It likes us! We will show King Kong something that will take Kong out of it! Oh, but for Godzilla.   Old wars are remembered, wars of cosmic proportions, some monkey business was there too. Rama knows, Rama cares.  But Sri Lanka burnt with monkey business.

Different times, different times. Oh Sita! Where are you now,? Ask Ranil?  Why? What has Ranil got to do with this?  Because he is playing Sita?? Hmm. A very different version of Taken, I suppose.  Taken to Sri Lanka – the sequel to, oh, that was also “Taken to Sri Lanka”, but told by Rama who doubted Sita’s fidelity.   No Liam Neeson here. He might come along  if producer Ratnam asks.  Will Godzilla care?  Who called monster island and signaled Godzilla?

Is Godzilla here? It is a question Sri Lanka might well ask.  If so, what are the terms of engagement.  Or is this, purely non-contractual, for our own good. Little Kong here means King Kong will be here soon, and it is a good time to trap the Big Boy and take him to .. where? Yes, where?

No! I get it, they want to create Monster Island here.  Make it a War Theme Park? Small battles, and beaches to relax after the exertion.  No Green Zone, no Green Line. You are sure of that?  The Greens might not agree.  Whatever, anyone has agreed to once they got a whiff of Little Kong, Godzilla they wanted.  Calling Monster Island, Calling Monster Island do you read me?  We need Godzilla! We are in peril, we need Godzilla!

So do we!  We need Godzilla. Do you see King Kong?  Not yet, but we are ready here with Godzilla. Let us do a test run with Godzilla.  Well,  first let see if Little Kong can do the doing thing.  Horrors! Now we know!  King Kong might not come, but Godzilla would, we called it, right?

No it came, as in came on its own. Oh?  That is too bad.  So what will we do now?  Well, Godzilla will not take action on Little Kong, it wants to deal with King Kong.  We have to wait till King Kong gets here?  Yes!  What will we do? Wait till we call you OK? Sita go home and rest.

We will withdraw to the beach.  Hey, bring me a drink will you?
