Bangkok Bound: The Flights

September 4th, 1145am (flight to BKK via NRT departs in 2hrs)

I’m extremely moody. Despite the worst of the stress ending last night around 730pm, I lay in bed, wide awake, tossing and turning till 5am.  With just 3hrs of sleep under my belt, I got cleaned up and head to the airport.

I was (extremely moody.) Then… I got checked in with an upgrade to Premium economy, was able to wait for the flight in the lounge… which included free breakfast. I ate, walked on to the plane, sat in a seat almost like a throne… so much space that I actually feel like the fold down table is too far from the seat (first world problems.) The magic of the move continues to happen. Don’t laugh, can you tell me something more magical than a free upgrade on a 14hr flight? Yeah. Right. That’s what I thought.

Mid-air, somewhere over the frozen wasteland… that is Canada.
Slept for a few hours. My mood is significantly improved. I’m flying over the top of the world. From Boston to Tokyo over the Arctic circle. I have that sinking feeling that I’ve forgotten something. but I think it’s just the vacuum left behind by the stress of the last couple of weeks. Tomorrow I will find a spa and get a full body massage, wax and completely, unapologetically pampered. Should be nice. It has been awhile since I travelled alone, and I’m savouring it. I fell asleep to Moana in my ears.

September 5th 5:11pm (Tokyo Narita Airport- Enroute)
I got on a plane and flew right into the future. It’s still yesterday in Boston. I love travel for this kind of magic. Everything about travel is magic. Like this Ton katsu I ordered. To have Bacon and Eggs for breakfast in Boston, and Ton katsu for dinner in Tokyo with nothing but a few hours on a plane in between- I’m just saying we take Air travel for granted. Never mind harry potter flying on a broom chasing a ball around a field, we fly hundreds and hundreds of people inside a metal tube across the globe… that’s not magic? (I mean, I know its science, but who says Science is just a fancy word for magic?!)

September 6th 12:10am (Bangkok, Thailand)

I lost a day. Another form of the above mentioned magic, but I had breakfast on the 4th, dinner on the 5th, and here I am driving through the wet streets of Bangkok early early on the 6th.

Thailand welcomed me with a light rain, a friendly taxi driver, and a smooth airport process. It’s been raining, so it’s not too hot, and everything is quiet and asleep. Somehow I thought a big city like this would still be buzzing, but there is a tangible absence of the city buzz. I like it. It reminds me of what I loved about Boston; The big city, with the small town vibe.

I’m here. My new place. My new Home place. Let’s try it on and see how it fits.
