Please Help! Flood Relief for Sri Lanka

Hello Friends,

I am reaching out on behalf of my family, on behalf of my community and country to help the people affected by the terrible floods in Sri Lanka. Heavy monsoon rains devastated the south and south-western part of Sri Lanka, with an estimated 199 dead, and more people missing. Massive flooding, and subsequent landslides are the main driving factors of the deaths and disappearances.

My hometown, Matara, is under water, but the areas worst affected are the villages surrounding the tea plantation where my parents are based. Thankfuly my family is safe, but many families are not.

If you want to help but you’re not sure the best way to make sure your dollar’s are making the biggest impact- this is a great option for you.

I am raising funds to support Healing Hands Women’s Organisation-Sri Lanka; a small local NGO based in Matara and Morawaka. The NGO is already on the ground providing safe drinking water, food, dry rations, and as time goes on plans to provide basic necessities for families to rebuild their lives.

This NGO is headed by my mom, Kumari Kulatunga, and was started after the Tsunami in 2004. The work is being personally managed by Ma. The workers and staff at the Morawaka Tea Plantation which is located in the heart of the area struck by this disaster are actively involved in supporting those affected in the community.

Please contact me (comment below) if you’re interested in making a donation. I can accept checks, cash or even a Paypal transfer. My goal is to raise $5000 by Monday 6/5.

Please see attached photos of the work already being done, and the impact of the floods.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your generosity!
