Here’s a brief look into the 2nd days play of the SLC Tier A Premier League matches which took place today. 

Super 8

Army SC vs Chilaw Marians SC

The soldiers were just 132 runs short of a dramatic victory against Chilaw Marians at the P Sara Stadium. In their second innings they were given a target of 156 runs and at stumps they were in a spot of bother with 24 for 2 in 10 overs. 

Early on in the day, Army resumed play with 65 for 4 on board. They were bowled out for 183 thanks to a brilliant spell of bowling by Sachithra Serasinghe. Sachithra took 4 for 29 and he found good support from Malinda Pushpakumara who bagged 3 for 46. 

In reply, Chilaw could only make 148 in their second innings as Nalin Priyadarshana took a five-for for the soldiers to go with his 4 wickets in the first innings. Shehan Jayasuriya top scored with 38 for Chilaw. 

On day one, Chilaw was bowled out for 190 with Danusika Bandara taking 5 wickets for Army.

NCC vs Ragama

NCC had a second innings lead of 347 runs at stumps on day 2 in their match against Ragama at CCC Grounds. NCC was 209 for 9 at stumps in their second innings after cleaning up Ragama for just 127 runs in their first innings. Ragama resumed play with 43 for 6 on board. A fighting half century by Sameera De Soyza and a good cameo by Chathura Pieris helped them reach 127 runs. Chathuranga De Silva bagged 4 for 21 after Farveez Maharoof made the initial breakthrough with the new ball. 

With a deficit of 138 runs in favor of them, NCC came to bat for their second innings. Couple of batsmen got starts but once again it was Chathuranga De Silva who stood out with 78 runs for NCC. Jehan Mubarak also chipped in with a valuable 49. With the ball for Ragama, Thilaksha Sumanasiri bagged 3 for 28. 

Early on, NCC made 265 all out for their first innings.

SSC vs Colts 

SSC was in a commanding position at stumps as they posted a 2nd innings lead of 317 runs against Colts at Katunayake. SSC resumed play at 275 for 7 but they lost their last three wickets for just 18 as they were cleaned up for 293 runs. 

In Reply Colts were bundled out for just 100 runs thanks to a splendid bowling performance by the SSC bowlers. Sachithra Senanayake was the pick of them with 4 for 31 but he got good support from Vimukthi Perera and Kasun Madushanka who bagged 3 wickets each. Sadeera Samarawickrama was the top scorer for Colts with 22 runs 

At stumps on day 2, SSC was 124 for 7. A big collapse in the top order but they are well ahead in the game thanks to the lead they earned in the first innings.

CCC vs Tamil Union

Big centuries from Ron Chandraguptha and Lahiru Madushanka helped CCC reach 406 for 8 at stumps on day 2. Chandraguptha opened the batting for CCC and scored 157 runs at the top. His knock came off 239 balls with 20 boundaries and 1 maximum. He and Madushanka added 240 runs for the 6th wicket. Madushanka was unbeaten on 151 at stumps. 

Early on, Tamil Union made 377 for their first innings.

Badureliya vs Moors 

Badureliya ended second day with a healthy lead of 177 runs in their second innings against Moors at BRC Grounds. Moors started the second day with the bat as they bowled out Badureliya on the first day. They were sitting on a comfortable position at 184 for 5 but some brilliant bowling by Dilesh Gunrathne who created havoc in the Moors first innings as they lost their last 5 wickets for just 30 runs, cleaning them up for just 214 runs. Dilesh was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 54 while Alankara Asanka took 4 wickets with the new ball. For Moors, Pabasara Waduge top scored with 71 while Primosh Perera scored a valuable 46 up the order. At stumps, Badureliya were 91 for 4 in their second innings. 

Early on, Badureliya posted 300 all out for their first innings with Sahan Wijerathne scoring a wonderful century.

Bloomfield vs BRC

BRC was still trailing by 81 runs at stumps in their first innings against Bloomfield at Panagoda. Bloomfield resumed play with 290 on board and they could only add 27 runs to their overnight score. BRC came on to bat in the first session and they looked to be in control right through out. Bhanuka Rajapaksha top scored with 52 while opener Lasith Lakshan scored a brisk 44. Malith De Silva bagged 4 for 64 with the ball for Bloomfield. 

Early on, Bloomfield posted 317 all out for their first innings with half centuries from Nipun Karunanayake and Nisal Francisco. Dinuka Hettiarachchi bagged 6 wickets for BRC.

Galle vs Saracens 

Galle SC was 15 for no loss in their second innings at stumps on day 2 in their match against Saracens at Bloomfield Grounds. Bloomfield resumed with 0 on board after facing only one over yesterday. Milinda Siriwardane played a valiant knock of 115 runs which guided Saracens to 315 all out for their first innings. Milinda’s knock came off 145 balls with 9 boundaries and 2 maximums. Umesh Karunarathne played a quick cameo of 57 down the order but apart from those two batsmen the rest failed to score many runs. With the ball for Galle CC, Sanjeewa Weerakoon bagged 4 for 121 and Roshan Jayatissa took 3 for 88. 

Early on, Galle made 301 for their first innings.
