Sri Lanka To Host IEEE Region 10 Student, Young Professional, Women in Engineering Congress

The IEEE Sri Lanka Section will be hosting the 3rd IEEE Region 10 Student, Young Professional, Women in Engineering Congress this time from the 9th to 12th July 2015 at Hotel Galadari under the theme ‘Today’s Youth for a Better Tomorrow’.

This biannual congress brings together professionals representing various disciplines of Engineering, Industry giants and students and provides the opportunity to explore the trending discoveries and innovations in the Engineering field. Held for the first time in Sri Lanka, this event would be the first technology oriented international conference of this scale after the youth congress in Sri Lanka.

In order to achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation, it is important for Sri Lanka to envision being Asia’s next knowledge hub. This is where IEEE R10 SYW Congress 2015 comes into play. Having representatives from almost all the countries in Asia Pacific Region, the IEEE R10 SYW Congress 2015 will allow Sri Lankan industries to reach an international audience to promote their brand. With a wide variety of participants representing number of fields, one can expect a lot of synergy to be gained through this kind of promotion.

The 4 day congress will be declared opened by the chief guest, Hon. Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, and will be attended by a number of distinguished people, among them Prof. J.B. Dissanayake.

“The Region 10 Congress of 2011 was a life changing and inspirational experience. The event provided me with a platform to advance my leadership capabilities on an international scale, form lifelong friendships and join individuals who share my passion to provide vast community benefits. I passionately advocate this gathering of students, young professionals and women in engineering. Now that I have become an academic staff member and actively promote the congress to my students, one of who is flying to Sri Lanka from Melbourne, Australia. I look forward to seeing how the Congress will inspire him”

  • Piyush Malviya – “Sri Lanka already seems quite exciting to me. Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Bentota, Sigiriya, Dambulla, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are already on my itinerary. I am a big foodie and I like tasting cuisines typical to a locality. So, I’ll be gorging onto different savories. I would love to catch up with my IEEE friends and make even more friends. Take some more memories to cherish, this is my plan for Sri Lanka.”
  • Ahsan (Karachchi) – “Something I would like to do in Sri Lanka is riding from Colombo to Kandy on elephants”.

In addition, there will also be guest performances by very own Sri Lankan artists and at the end of the event, the guests will be escorted to witness the beauty of Sri Lanka including the heritage sites and sites gifted with nature’s love.
Preparations are under way to get everything into place partners are preparing their speeches to be delivered at the inauguration ceremony.
