I am sure most of you are aware of this Popular Facebook application which is sort of like a horoscope. I just love the psychology behind all these predictions. I was actually almost convinced that they might be true. But a closer analysis of the things that are said along with a little Insight shows that actually things that are said are very general and vague as well. And most of the things are common expectation and aspiration that we all have in and about our monotonous lives. For example in the above… ” you MIGHT get involved in a very interesting project this week.” So this unconsciously makes us look for INTERESTING PROJECTS to get involved in. And IF I somehow manage to get involved in something I in turn will attribute it to Anita’s prediction. (this maybe unconscious too) See the human mind is such that it recalls and retains HITS more that MISSES. So even if Anita was wrong with many other predictions before the very instance that she is right about one or two predictions we go all up in delight and say “there has been a Miracle” (or the like). The human mind actually dismisses past failures / MISSES and retains only the HITS and reinforces them. Another example; how many times have you thought of someone and that person has called…I am sure you must be like Yeah that has happen to me!!! Well hold on to your horses telepathy kid… just think… HOW many times have you thought of someone and they have NOT called??? Work out the statistics of probability and see… hmmm… not so Telepathic now are we???
