Adieu

Your breasts press against my chest
As you whisper goodbye
Your head nestles on my neck
As I fight back a sigh
I can’t hold you close enough
To make you understand
How hard it is to let you go
And leave me for another man
You whisper ‘I’m sorry’
Spilling tears on my sleeve
‘You don’t deserve this pain’
You murmur as you leave
One last melancholy glance
And then you’re out the door
Soon to fall into his arms
As you did in mine before
While here I stand, lonely
Greedily watching that space
Where your body slipped through
When I last saw your beautiful face.
