Colombo Celebrates Social Media Day.. [with PICS]

Yesterday (June 30th) was a special day to all Social Media enthusiasts. It was the day where the whole world celebrated the emergence of social media; a concept started by the popular website Mashable, to promote social media all around the world. The city of  Colombo also joined the bandwagon and celebrated “Social Media Day “in grand style at Park Premier, Excel World. The event was organized by the peeps at Neo Ogilvy Sri Lanka and was powered by Etisalat Sri Lanka.

I also got the chance to attend this event and I must say it was a grand success. The crowds were overwhelming and the presentations that were made by Isura Silva of Sarvodaya Fusion who talked about social media for social good as well as the manager from coco veranda who gave an idea on how social media helped them to grow their business were really informative and interesting.

Also, it was great to see jehanr , the Sri Lankan who became an instant Youtube sensation and now works for the same company making his genius but awesomely funny videos. His path to success was simply amazing to see and inspired the attendees on how a person can achieve success by really making use of their hidden talents.

Overall, it was a great event and special thank you must go to Amitha Amarasinghe and his team as well as the team at Etisalat for putting up a great event to celebrate the day of Social Media.

Social Media is here to stay and will be a phenomena that will be there for a very long time.  The following are some pictures that were taken by me during the event.
