Play pretend

Holding hands
We walk into the sunset
We smile and we talk
And we laugh and get our feet wet
But we know that it’s not real
We know it’s play pretend
Though neither will say it
We have no love to lend
There are no sparks when we touch
No fireworks when we kiss
No feelings of contentment
Or unadulterated bliss
Our life together is a fraud
The love we show is a sham
And though you claim to love me
You don’t know who I am
It’s about time we depart
To follow our fates
So that we may go forth
And find our true soulmates.
