Bogoda wooden bridge

Bogoda Bridge which lies across the Gallanda Oya (joins the Uma Oya) is a wooden wonder belongs to the 16th century. It is believed to be the oldest remaining wooden bridge in the world. The most interesting fact is that single nail has not used to construct this. The wooden roof is covered with kandyan style tiles and pillars holding it and the fence show numerous wood carvings. The bridge is constructed on a stage made with 3 wooden trunks which lie across the river. It is supported by another huge trunk which extends from the base of the bridge. On one side there is an ancient temple which is considered to be older than the bridge. According to the legends King Walagambahu has used this place as a hiding place and he had converted it to a temple later.  It has some paintings inside. To reach this you have to take Galauda road from Hali Ela and turn to Jangalla junction which leads to Bogoda village.
