Chess is strategy; Of course it’s war. But it’s also a game of Kings. A game of Royalty. The history of chess is the history of prodigies. It stood same even for the Inter University Championship 2018.

The Chess Tournament  of the Inter University Championship 2018 for both Men and Women categories were held on 27th , 28th and 29th July, at the University of Jaffna. Students representing every university participated in the tournament with kindled hope of bringing the Chess Championship to their university.

Tournament were filled with students clustered over chessboards, debating tactics. All of them driven with one ambition, mind fixed on a single purpose, to win the Championship and be the Kings of Game of Kings.
Practicing and playing hundreds of games, studying them, reviewing moves to see where a
tactic was missed, where a wrong move was anticipated, where one could have pressed for
better advantage. It was the time to check their ability to checkmate with a bishop and a knight.
You never know!

After a very competitive series of matches, team of University of Sri Jayawardenepura placed 1st in the Men’s category while teams of Universities of Peradeniya and Moratuwa placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In women’s category team representing the University of Colombo placed 1st. University of
Peradeniya placed 2nd  and team of University of Sri Jayawardenepura placed 3rd .
