D.S. Senanayake College, who finished 12th in overall standings of the Schools Rugby League 2016, has obtained an enjoining order from Colombo District Court against the sport’s governing body, Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA).

The SLSRFA promoted Prince of Wales College to the top division, despite the fact that they finished below the Dons in the league. According to the SLRFA, the reason for is this is that Prince of Wales had been awarded full points for the game against CWW Kannangara (which they lost) after it was discovered that the latter had fielded an illegible player, putting them ahead of the Dons in the league standings.

When questioned regarding this process, a source from D.S. Senanayake College said, “Nowhere in the world does this happen. The full time score cannot be changed in rugby, if you lose a game you lose. A ban should be given to CWW Kannangara but not the total points to Prince of Wales College.”

This Wednesday (22.02.2017) the D.S. Senanayake College officials and SLSRFA will meet at the courts to bring a resolution to the matter.

Since preparations have already been made for the Schools’ League, D.S. has no objection to the tournament going forward but the source admitted “Prince of Wales and D.S. should not play until the case ends, we have earned the right to play, therefore it should be us playing not them (Prince of Wales).”

In addition to this, another speculation coming up that perhaps “D.S. Senanayake and Kingswood might come into top division to make it 14 teams making it 7 teams each in segment 1A and 2A.”
