VIDEO: Upul Chandana bowls Warne’s ball of the century

Sri Lanka’s leg-spinning all-rounder Upul Chandana’s service to his country is often underrated. He was a vital cog in Sri Lanka’s ODI setup for a very long time offering excellent support to Muralitharan and providing the finishing touches to Sri Lanka’s innings from the lower order.

In the fourth match of the Asia Cup in 2004, against the UAE, Chandana bowled this obfuscating ball that almost precisely resembled Shane Warne’s ball of the century to Mike Gatting in 1993. The well-flighted ball drifted into the right-handed Ramveer Rai, pitching almost outside the leg stump, and then spun sharply away from him to hit the off stump. Chandana picked up four wickets in that match as the UAE folded for 123 runs.
