Here’s a brief look into the Super Eight and the Plate matches of the SLC Tier A Premier League which started today. 

Super 8

SL Army vs Chilaw Marians 

Danusika Badara’s five wicket haul for Army restricted Chilaw Marians to just 190 runs in their first innings at P Sara Stadium. Bandara cleaned up the final 5 wickets after Nalin Priyadarshana bowled splendidly up front to take 4 quick wickets.  The only resistance came from Ashen Silva and Skipper Mahela Udawatte who scored half centuries for Chilaw.

In reply, Army were in a spot of bother at stumps with 65 runs on the board for the loss of 4 wickets.

Ragama vs NCC

Ragama CC were in dire straits at stumps with 43 for 6 on the board in their first innings against NCC. Farveez Maharoof bowed a killer spell with the new ball taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs in 8 overs. Early on, NCC posted 265 runs for their first innings with Angelo Perera and Chathuranga De Silva scoring valuable half centuries. Chathura Pieris took 4 wickets for Ragama with the ball.

Tamil Union vs CCC

A captain’s knock by Kithruwan Vithanage helped Tamil Union post 377 all out for their first innings against CCC at the Colts Grounds. Kithruwan came in at No 5 when his side was struggling at 47 for 3 and added 95 runs for the fifth wicket alongside Jeewan Mendis, with the latter chipping in with 40 runs. Kithruwan’s innings of 130 came off 161 deliveries with 17 boundaries and 1 maximum. Manoj Sarathchandra and Chamika Karunarathne scored half centuries in the lower middle order. Lahiru Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets for Colts.

SSC vs Colts 

Dimuth Karunarathne’s century guided SSC to a commanding total of 275 for 7 at stumps in their match against Colts CC. Dimuth coming back after the South African tour proved to be a vital addition for the side in their first match in the super 8s. His 125 run knock came off 220 balls with 15 boundaries. Dasun Shanaka continued his good form with the bat with another half century for SSC., Dilruwan Perera bagged 4 wickets for 70 runs with the ball for Colts.

Badureliya vs Moors

Sahan Wijerathne’s fighting century helped Badureliya post 300 for their first innings in their match against Moors at BRC Grounds. Badureliya were struggling at 79 for 4 when Sahan came to the crease when Saliya Saman  and he had a 62 run partnership for the 5th wicket. Saman was dismissed for 38 while Sahan soldiered on to make 102 off 203 balls and included 9 boundaries. Nilanka Sandakan was the pick of the bowlers for Moors with 5 wickets for 52 runs.

Bloomfield vs BRC

A 150 run partnership between Nisal Francisco and Nipun Karunanayke guided Bloomfield to 290 for 8 in their first innings against BRC at Panagoda. Nisal and Nipun got together when the team was tottering on 20 for 2. The pair showed grit and carried on until the second session. Nisal was dismissed for 79 while Nipun was sent back to the pavilion just 2 runs short of well-deserved century. Dinuka Hettiarachchi bagged a five-for for BRC.

Galle vs Saracens

Galle posted 301 for their first innings in their match against Saracens at Bloomfield Grounds. Damitha Hunukumbura scored 97 at the top, missing out on a splendid century. Himself and Minhaj Jaleel put together a 99 run stand for the first wicket. Skipper Nilushan Nonis chipped in with 65 in the middle order. Kasun Rajitha picked up 5 wickets for Saracens.
