Maduka Liyanapathiranage’s 5 wicket haul completed a comprehensive victory by 378 runs for Chilaw Marians against Bloomfield at Bloomfield grounds. In the fourth innings, the home side was given an impossible target of 593 runs for victory. They had a horrible start to their chase after losing 2 wickets for just 18 runs. Skipper Nipun Karunanayake and Lahiru Jayakody had a good partnership but after the dismissal of Nipun for 33, Bloomfield was struggling at 159 for 7. Lahiru top scored with a brisk 70. Vinodh Perera and Lahiru Fernando showed some resistance for the home side but it wasn’t enough as they got cleaned up for 214 runs. Maduka was the pick of the bowlers with 5 wickets while Shehan Jayasuriya and Malinda Pushpakumara shared 2 wickets each.

Early on, Chilaw Marians posted 291 runs for their first innings with Arosh Janoda scoring 80 runs and Lahiru Fernando taking 6 wickets for the home side. In reply Bloomfield was all out for 136 with Malinda Pushpakumara taking 5 wickets for Chilaw. The visitors posted 437 for 6 for their second innings with a brilliant double ton by Shehan Jayauriya.

CCC vs BRC

This group B clash ended in a tame draw at CCC grounds. The visitors resumed play on 407 for 7 in their first innings. They added 58 runs in the morning before they were bowled out for 465 runs. Thilakarathne Sampath top scored with 123 while Andy Solomons, Harsha Vithana and Lasith Lakshan scored half centuries. In reply Colts were 222 for 7 at stumps on the last day with and unbeaten century by Ron Chandraguptha.

Early on, CCC posted 326 all out in their first innings with a brilliant knock of 191 by Dilshan Munaweera. Dinuka Hettiarachchi bagged 6 wickets for the visitors.

Galle vs SSC

Tharindu Rathnayake’s 7 wicket match bag helped SSC register a thrilling 5 wicket victory over Galle at Galle Cricket Stadium. The home side were sitting comfortably at stumps with 131 runs on board for the loss of 2 wickets but the visitors slowly kept chipping away with the wickets on the third day. Galle’s resistance was led by Minhaj Jaleel who played an outstanding innings of 144 runs. His innings included 5 sixes and 19 boundaries. Apart from Chalana De Silva’s half century down the order there wasn’t much of support for Jaleel as the home side got cleaned up for 312 runs. Rathnayake bagged 3 wickets in the second innings to go with his 4 wickets in the first innings.

SSC were given a target of 62 and they reached the target in just 14.1 overs with 5 wickets intact.

Early on, Galle CC was cleaned up for 128 with Tharindu Rathnayake’s 4 wicket haul. In reply, SSC posted 379 runs with Minod Bhanuka scoring 148 runs at the top.

Ragama CC vs Colts CC

This group B clash ended in draw at NCC grounds today. Ragama resumed play at 217 for 3. Udhara Jayasundara was unbeaten on 101 and he went on to score 144 before he was dismissed by Akila Dhananjaya. Roshen Silva scored a valuable 65 as Ragama reached 366 all out for their first innings. Nisala Tharaka bagged 5 wickets for Colts. At stumps on day 3, SSC was 170 for 2 with Sadeera Samarawickrama scoring an unbeaten 112 off just 103 balls, making up for the missed opportunity in the first innings.

Early on, Colts CC made 366 all out with Sadeera Samarawickrama and Akila Dhanajaya scoring 90’s for them. Amila Aponsu took 7 for Ragama.

Saracens vs Army

A hard-fought encounter between Saracens and Army ended in a draw today at Moors grounds. After a positive declaration by Saracens skipper Harsha Cooray, Army were given a target of 177 to get in 45 overs on the last day. They were on par with the run rate but some tight bowling and defensive batting saw Army 30 runs short of target. The game ended in a draw but it was pleasing sight for any Sri Lankan cricket fan to see positive cricket been played in the 1st class arena.

Early on, Saracens posted 358 all out with Milinda Siriwardane’s knock of 121. In reply, Army posted 361 with Lakshitha Madushan scoring a brilliant 152. Suraj Randiv bagged 6 wickets for Saracens and they unleashed themselves in their second innings to score 179 runs in just 23 overs and declared to give Army a target to chase down. Sangeeth Cooray scored a quick fire 78 for Saracens.
