The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation in collaboration with Munchee, kick started the Colombo District Novices finals of the Munchee National Volleyball Championships. The Army Signal Corps team won in the men’s category and Kapila Sports Club from Siyambalagoda won the women’s category.
First off in the women’s category, Kapila Sports club and Dharmapala Girls College, Pannipitiya take the court. The first set ended with the score 25/15 in favour of Kapila Sports club, a dominance they carried throughout the match.

The second round saw much of the same from Kapila SC however the deficit was reduced to 5 points between the two teams indicating that the team from Pannipitiya put up a good fight in the respective round. All in all, the match ended in a comfortable 2-0 set win for the women from Siyambalagoda.
The finals in the men’s category took place at the Kiribathgoda Youth Centre Complex. Of the 15 teams that took part on the first day, only the Sri Lanka Army Signal Corps and Ocean Lanka (Pvt) Ltd Sports Club were left fighting for the elusive berth in the upcoming All Island tournament.
The atmosphere was tense as this proved to be an unpredictable match after the tide changed in favour of Ocean Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, after the 25/15 win in the first round by the Signal Corps.
The transition in dominance was eventually established when Ocean Lanka won the second round 25/22.
The match, however, ended 2 sets to 1 in favour of the Signal Corps as they picked up the pace after the second round defeat with a 25-23 score thus establishing their place in the All Island tournament.
The tournament which took place in the Colombo district saw 15 men’s teams and 3 women’s teams in action.
Once the Amateur and Super league is finished thus far, the main tournament would begin on the 25th of November at the Maharagama Youth Centre indoor complex.
