Kirulapone United and Henamulla United will battle it out for Silver Cup glory on 23rd October at 3.30pm at CR&FC Grounds.

The Silver Cup which is a knockout tournament is organized by the Colombo Football League and this year’s competition started on 21st August. 20 Division II clubs of the Colombo Football League participated in the tournament.

Kirulapone United

Premier League Division II playing Kirulapone United has had a wonderful 12 months which started off with being the runners-up in last year’s Silver Cup.

Little know Kirulapone United made quite the buzz when they battled into the Round of Last 32 in the 2016 FA Cup a few months back where their fairytale run was ended by Solid SC. In the process they defeated their Silver Cup finals opponents Henamulla United 2-0.

Kirulapone United, captained by Kavindu Madushan, defeated the much fancied Old Joes SC 3-0 in the semi-final at Ratnam Park to make it to the final. Their defense looks very solid as they haven’t conceded in their last three knockout matches.

L.K.Priyantha, coach of Kirulapana United SC, said that the players in and around Kirulapone represents the club and that their secret for success was the commitment and devotion of the players.

“All players are prompt at practices and they train 3 days per week,” He added.

Henamulla United

Henamulla United from Thotalanga entered the tournament with high hopes of clinching the title and the boys have done their best to come to the finals for the 2nd time in history of this tournament.Having being 2nd best to Kirulapone United in the FA Cup qualifying stage they would undoubtedly want to avenge the defeat with the Silver Cup triumph.

Though Henamulla have scored freely much like Kirulapone United, they would need to strengthen the defense come the final.

Winners will receive a cash prize of Rs.25,000 along with trophies and medals. Runners up will receive cash award of Rs.15,000 and trophies and medals.
