After winning the ball on the whistle the All Island Schools’ winners Royal College showcased some good hockey, moving the ball between the corners well. Trinity College showed some aggressive intent in the beginning, playing a hit and run game. Despite having possession in the game, Royal could not make the most of it in the early part of the game since the Trinity defence was strong enough to keep the ball away from its own goal. The Trinity deputy skipper U. Tharatharan was excellent in defence which restricted Royal from scoring in the first few passages of play.

1Royal forwards Dilan Kavinda De Silva and Furqan Irfan had many chances to draw first blood but the Trinity Goalie Avinash Fernando was up to the task. Royal College won the first penalty corner of the match but they missed a golden opportunity to score. In the dying stages of the first half, a penalty was given against Trinity for illegally blocking a clear scoring chance for Royal. This time Royal forward Dilan Kavinda De Silva made no mistake and sent the ball to the back of the net.
