Four  under 19 ‘Singer Trophy’ division one cricket encounters commenced today in Colombo and its suburbs.

St. Joseph’s College vs St. Servatius’ College, Matara

St. Joseph’s College struck back strongly with the ball after being bowled out for 148 in their Singer Trophy under 19 division one ‘group D’ encounter against St. Servatius’ College at Darley Road.

After being sent into bat first, Joes were decimated by the left-arm spin of Shashika Dulshan who took 5 for 56. Skipper Harin Cooray top scored with 37 while Thashan Perera and Nipun Sumanasinghe made 20s.

The visitors were rattled by the two opening fast-bowlers; Jehan Daniel and Ruchira Ekanayake who shared 5 wickets as St. Servatius’ were on 60 for 6 as bad-light stopped play on day one.

St. Joseph’s College – 148 all out in 56.3 overs: Thashan Perera 26, Nipun Sumanasinghe 22, Harin Cooray 37, Shashika Dulshan 5/56.

Trinity College, Kandy vs Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya

Skipper Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan picked up 6 wickets as Trinity College bowled out Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya for 113 in their ‘group A’ match at Pannipitiya.

The match got off to a delayed start due to rain and the hosts were asked to bat first. Avishka Hasarinda and Mahima Weerakoon made 27 and 25 respectively as Shanogeeth together with his left-arm spin partner, Vimukthi Nethmal dominated proceedings. Trinitians were 19 for no loss at stumps on day one as only 49 overs were possible today.

Dharmapala College – 113 all out in 42 overs: Avishka Hasarinda 27, Mahima Weerakoon 25, Gihan Perera 16, Shammuganadan Sanogeeth 6/45, Vimukthi Nethumal 2/09.

Trinity College – 19 for no loss in 7 overs.


St. Peter’s College vs St. Anthony’s College, Wattala

The joint-defending champions, St. Peter’s College Colombo put up a stellar performance on day one in their ‘group A’ encounter against St. Anthony’s College, Wattala at Bambalapitiya.

After electing to bat first, the hosts smashed 339 for 6 declared in 53 overs. Skipper Lakshina Rodrigo scored his second consecutive half-century while Ranmith Jayasena, Manelkar De Silva and Anishka Perera made effortless half-tons for the Peterites. In reply, the visitors were tottering at 32 for 5 as right-arm fast-bowler Santhush Gunathilake picked up four wickets at close of play.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa vs Dharmaraja College, Kandy

Vice-captain Nimesh Bandara made a fluent 83 as St. Sebastian’s College posted a mammoth 295 in their season opening encounter against Dharmaraja College in their group ‘A’ encounter at Moratuwa.

2015/16 season league joint-defending champions elected to bat first after their skipper Mishane Silva won the toss earlier in the day. Bandara’s terrific 83 was ably supported by two Fernando’s, Nuwanidu and Prashan who made similar scores of 49. Off-spinner Gihan Witharana picked up 5 wickets for the Rajans. The visitors in reply were 58 for 2 at close of play.
