Former Sri Lankan captains, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena have signed up to play for the Dhaka Dynamites in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League 2016/17.

The money-spinning T20 competition will commence on November 4th in Dhaka. There will be 46 matches, including three play-off games and the final which will be held in Dhaka and Chittagong and will run for over a month, with the final slated for December 9th. The players draft in the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be held on the 30th of September.

Before the players’ draft, 31 foreign players have already been bought by franchises. These foreign cricketers will not be included in the players’ draft list which consists of 133 local cricketers and 168 foreign players.

Out of the 31 players, 7 players are from Sri Lanka, namely, Mahela Jayawardena, Kumar Sangakkara (Dhaka Dynamites), Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara (Comilla Victorians), Dilshan Munaweera (Barisal Bulls), Chathuranga De Silva (Chittagong Vikings) and Dasun Shanaka (Rangpur Riders).

Some of the marquee T20 internationals like Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy and Shoaib Malik will also play for their respective franchises.

The other Sri Lankan players who have entered the players draft are Seekkuge Prasanna (‘A’ Category – 70,000 USD), Chamara Kapugedara, Upul Tharanga, Sachithra Senanayake, Kaushal Silva (‘B’ Category – 50,000 USD), Jeevan Mendis, Milinda Siriwardana (‘C’ Category – 40,000 USD), Ajantha Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanne, Udara Jayasundera, Ramith Rambukwella, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Danushka Gunathilaka, Gihan Rupasinghe, Angelo Perera (‘D’ Category – 30,000 USD).
