Gateway College v Lyceum International School – Nugegoda

.

The girls from LISN were able to grab the ball first but they didn’t have a great luck converting it into a shot. It took them a couple attempts to score the first basket of the game and that however was from a shooting foul. The girls from GCC, on the other hand found it a breeze to score baskets as the transition from offense to defense of LISN was not at its best.  Yet LISN finding form towards the latter part of the half kept on swishing the nets as they kept on the heat of the game.

Although GCC wasn’t the better side at etching rebounds the absence of the LISN defense allowed GCC to turn the tables as they went into the second half with an equal score.

Coming into the second half LISN`s defense was not the best as they lacked energy into the game.  Kiara Ekanayake the point guard of GCC was calling offensive plays and setting up the free players inside the perimeter with an easy shot to increase the deficit. The girls from GCC intercepted quite a few passes during the half and successfully converted them into baskets. GCC played a team game incorporating all their players moving the ball constantly. The other difference between the two was that there was always support when going for a fast break allowing them to secure the win of eleven points.

Speaking to the coach of the winning team of GCC “I think we won because we played a team game we made sure the ball moved across the court and got to the player with the easiest shot.”

Royal Institute – Colombo vs Lyceum International School – Nugegoda

Even though RIC won the jump ball and made a few attempts they failed to get the party started. LISN bringing full value to their maiden attempt got the scoreboard ticking. The boys from RIC were agile but they needed work on their finishing touches as they couldn’t make their shots count.

Both teams employed a tight zone defense. Both of the teams relied on fast breaks as the set moves dried-up with tight defense from both the ends.

The second half was kicked off by LISN capitalizing on an unsuccessful conversion by RIC. The boys from RIC had a bad run as they missed almost all their shots in the first few minutes. They found momentum into the final minutes of the third quarter as they closed down the gap to a point.

RIC was looking to score from around the perimeter to take home a much-needed win but an unfortunate miss gave LISN the ball which led to a fast break in the final few seconds of the game sealing their victory in this thrilling encounter.

The coach of the winning team of LISN commented on his team’s performance “We played well but we have a lot to improve on and I think our players took it too easy which is what made this such a close game.”

The final match of the day in which Colombo International School  was to play against Leyden Park International School was not played and CIS received a walk over as LPIS did not turn up for the match.
