Jaffna region team comprehensively beat Ambalangoda region team 4-0 in the U16 Inter Regional Championship final played at the Kelaniya Football Complex.
Both teams started proceedings rather steadily as both defenses held firm whilst their respective midfields showed ample composure.
Yet it was the lads from the North who drew first blood in the 18th minute when Kamilton Pravinton was set up by his skipper Rajkumar Santhon’s breathtaking run on the right for an easy tap in.
It was all Jaffna from that point on as they piled on the misery on the lads from the south as Reman Reamson added a second in the 37th minute to go in for lemons with a two goal cushion.

The second half was no different for the Northern lads as Rajkumar Santhan added a brace to his tally in the tournament in the 52nd and 73rd minutes respectively.
On the flip side the boys from Ambalangoda were crippled by their own inability to finish while the few chances presented themselves. With an impressive showing in all departments the Jaffna boys took the trophy back home with a stellar performance.

Negombo trounce Gambola for 3rd place
After a disappointing semi final showing Negombo region bounced back with a dominant 7-1 drubbing of Gambola region in the consolation final of the U16 Inter Region consolation finals held at Kelaniya Football Complex.
The boys from Negombo started off the better of both sides as they showed the intent they lacked against Ambalangoda in their semifinal clash.
It was Danushka Fernando and Praneeth Shaminda who piled on the goals during the 7th, 22nd, 42nd, 43rd, 54th, 59th and 75th minutes respectively. Both strikers showed little margin for error as they scored a hat trick each with Praneeth scoring an impressive 4th.
The Gambola lads collected a mere consultation on a goalkeeping howler when the Negombo goalkeeper Samith Chandeepa misjudged the bounce off a P.V.Madumal’s hopeful long ball.
