Chamathsara & Supun to lead Sri Lanka

Chamathsara Fernando and Supun Warusawithana will captain the girls and boys teams respectively at the 5th Asian Schools Table Tennis Championships to be held in Singapore.

The tournament will be held from the 12th to the 19th of August at the Tao Payoh Sports Hall in Singapore. China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macao, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand will be the other participating countries.

Chamathsara, a product of Visakha Vidayalaya is ranked 2nd in the U18 category and 2nd and 4th in the U21 & Open categories respectively.

She was the gold medalist in the women’s singles at the 2014 National Sports Festival while also bagging two golds in the recently concluded 2016 South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship. She won the girls’ doubles, girls’ team gold while silver in the girls’ singles.

Hansani Piumila also from Visakha Vidyalaya is in the team where she too was part of the team to win team goal and girls’ doubles golds while defeating Chamathsara for the singles gold.

The island ranked 1st in U18 & 2nd in Open, Piumila was also the champion in the Open Women’s singles at the All Island Open Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2016.

Sashini Imasha De Silva (Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda) Junior National Table Tennis Championship 2015 U15 Girls’ Champion, South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship 2016 cadet team – gold & cadet girls singles – Gold, U15 ranked 1st, U18 ranked 4th, Open ranked 7th.

Muthumali Priyadarshani (Devananda College, Ambalangoda) National Sports Festival 2013 & 2015 Women’s Team Champion, South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship 2016 Junior girls’ team – gold, U18 ranked 3rd, U21 ranked 5th, Open ranked 6th

Natasha Sandavinee (Visakha Vidyalaya) – Junior National Table Tennis Championship – 2015 U15 Runner-up, South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship – 2016 Cadet Team – Gold, U15 ranked 6th, U18 ranked 7th.

Ananda College’s Supun Warusawithana is ranked 3rd in the U18’s and 2nd in the U21 category while winning the U21 boys’ championship at the All Island Open Ranking Table Tennis Championship in 2015. He was also part of the team that won the boys’ team goal at the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship 2016.

Vidyartha College’s Krishan Wickramarathne is ranked 2nd in U18 and 2nd in the U21 category. He was the U18 boys’ champion at the 2015 Junior Nationals and won the team gold, doubles gold and singles silver at the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship.

Dinesh Kavishka (Vidyartha College, Kandy) All Island Open Ranking Championship 2014 U15 Boys’ Champion, South Asian Junior Championship 2015 Team Silver, U18 ranked 6th & U21 ranked 4th.

Sandesh Nissanka (Ananda College, Colombo) All Island Open Ranking Championship 2014 U15 boys semi-finalist, U18 ranked 8th, U21 ranked 8th.

Dishanka Thennakoon (Dharmaraja College, Kandy) National Sports Festivla 2015 team gold, South Asian Junior Championship 2014 cadet team silver, cadet single bronze. U18 ranked 5th & open ranked 9th.

Chaminda Roshan will be the boys’ team coach while Chandana Perera will be the girls’ team coach.
