BMS and Saegis through to the finals

Business Management School (BMS) faced the Kothalawala Defense University (KDU), while Saegis Campus met St. Peter’s College yesterday at Thurstan College grounds, in the semi-finals of the Red Bull Inter Campus Cricket Tournament 2016.

BMS vs KDU

BMS won the toss and elected to bat first. The dominant team from BMS put up a mammoth first innings total of 287 for the loss of 4 wickets in their respective 20 overs.

In-form left-handed Shehan Jayasuriya clobbered 77 runs off 38 balls, while Geshan Wimaladharma and Manoj Sarathchandra chipped in with 51 and 45 runs respectively. Tilaksha Malshan gave a real impetus in the final few balls hammering 69 off 20 balls.

KDU only managed to put up 119 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in reply to the BMS score. Ramith Gunaratne top scored with 38 runs. Dasun Shanaka picked up 3 wickets for the winners.

BMS won the match quite comfortably by 168 runs.

BMS– 287/4 in 20 overs: Shehan Jayasuriya 77*, Tilaksha Malshan 69*, Geshan Wimaladharma 51, Manoj Sarathchandra 45, Waruna Deshapriya 46/1.

KDU– 119 all out in 15.4 overs: Ramith Gunaratne 38, Omesh Vidyaratne 22, Dasun Shanaka 26/3, Devind Padmanathan 18/2.

SAEGIS vs St. Peter’s

Saegis Campus booked their place in the final beating St. Peter’s College by 19 runs in the more-competitive second semi-final.

Saegis Campus won the toss and elected to bat first and managed to gain a comfortable score of 192 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Left-handed Nipuna Gamage topped the innings with 41 runs while wicket-keeper batsman Lasith Abeyrathne clobbered a quick-fire 37 in the final few overs. Peterite off-spinner Ranmith Jayasena restricted the Saegis Campus innings taking 3 wickets for 28 runs.

St. Peter’s in their chase was propelled by senior player and opening Chandula Jayamanne and Santhush Gunathilake who made 38 and 47 respectively. Left-arm seamer Ruvinda Shamen captured 3 for 16 with the ball.

Saegis Campus won by 19 runs.

Saegis– 192/9 in 20 overs: Nipuna Gamage 41, Lasith Abeyaratne 37, Ranmith Jayasena 28/3, Chathura Obeyasekara 24/2.

St. Peters– 173 all out in 19.3 overs: Santhush Gunathilake 47, Chandula Jayamanna 38, Ruvinda Shameen 16/3, Anuk de Silva 43/2.
