ACBT and Lyceum record convincing victories

ACBT vs Edulink - RI vs Lyceum Wattala

The Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament 2016, kick started its Sri Lankan leg this week with the Universities battling it out to become the overall university champions from Sri Lanka. In this year’s edition, a few schools have also joined in adding the overall number of teams to 18. Players at the domestic and international level will also be taking part.

ACBT faced Edulink International Campus this morning, while Royal Institute Colombo met Lyceum International School Wattala in the evening. ACBT and Lyceum International School Wattala made comfortable victories in their respective games. The matches were played at the Thurstan College cricket grounds.

ACBT vs Edulink

The toss for the morning’s game was won by ACBT as they opted to put the Edulink International Campus team in to bat first. Kavishka Fernando made 58 runs making his team reach a final score of 148 for 6 in their respective 20 overs. Malik Peiris and Nimash Gunasinghe shared 2 wickets each. However, ACBT managed to surpass this score quite easily with the loss of just two wickets and with two overs to spare. A strong stance by Nushan Weerasinghe (42) and Ashen Arungoda (35) steered ACBT as they advance forward in the Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament.

Edulink- 148/6 in 20 overs: Kavishka Fernando 58, Gadanamalinga 25*, Malik Peiris 2-18, Nimash Gunasinghe 2-14.

ACBT– 165/2 in 18 overs: Nushan Weerasinghe 42, Ashen Arungoda 35, Isaac Suppiah 1-13.

RI vs Lyceum Wattala

10 manned Royal Institute were all out for just 53 runs in 16.4 overs as they were put into bat while Lyceum managed to steal the game in just 6.1 overs without the loss of any wickets. Sakum Sansuan was the highest scorer for RI with 7 runs. Opponents Lyceum made their 62 runs with an unbeaten Shabik Dharya (23) and Shameegen Shirutharan (26).

RIC- 53/9 in 16.4 overs: Sakum Sansuan 7, Gihan de Soysa 2-9, Abinash Ravichandran 2-1, Kavindu Rajakaruna 2-10.

LISW– 62/0 in 6.1 overs: Shabik Dharya 23, Shameegan Shirutharan 26.
