Dushmantha Chameera sidelined for four months

24-year old lanky right-arm fast-bowler Dushmantha Chameera will return to Sri Lanka due to a lower back injury sustained during the first Test against England last week.

He will be returning to Colombo for further treatment and rest. Chameera underwent a MRI/CT Scan yesterday, which has indicated a stress fracture to his lower back, and medical recommendation is treatment and rest for as much as four months.

This is a major setback for the Sri Lankan chances of bouncing back as medium-fast bowler Dhammika Prasad also returned to Sri Lanka with an injury to his shoulder last week and is currently undergoing treatment.

The National Selectors headed by Sanath Jayasuriya will meet within the next 24 hours, to decide on a suitable replacement.  Right-arm seamer Kasun Rajitha and uncapped left-arm fast-bowler Vishwa Fernando appear to be the leading contenders, as both had been named in the 20-man provisional squad ahead of the tour.
