St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala opening batsman Pubudu Ganegama made a scintillating century for North Western Province against Southern Province on day two of the SLC Super 19 Provincial Tournament 2016 final on Thursday at R. Premadasa International Stadium.

The North Westerners resumed day two on 53 for 1 but lost Kamesh Nirmal straightaway as Thilan Prasan struck in the second ball of the morning session. Right-handed Ganegama was involved in three fruitful partnerships of 76, 69 and 93 with Wanitha Wanninayake, Nipun Dhananjaya and Damitha Silva respectively which helped North Western post a commanding 342 on the board after batting for 111 overs. Earlier on day one, Southern Province were bowled out for only 247 runs.

Ganegama faced 277 balls to notch up 106 runs and his knock had 9 fours and a six. Wanninayake and Dhananjaya made 45 and 38 respectively while skipper Damitha stroked a fine 64 off 80 deliveries with 9 boundaries and a huge six.

For the Southerners, left-arm spinner Hareen Buddhila and off-spinner Kavindu Ediriweera took 2 wickets apiece while Dilum Sudeera of Karandeniya Central College captured 3 important wickets.

Southern Province started their second innings with 95 runs behind and could only face two overs before bad light brought a premature end to the second day’s play.
