2013 a year in review

Looking back at 2013, there have been many changes in the broadcasting industry when it comes to the many FTA channels we get in Sri Lanka. 2013 has seen many channels rebranding such as Your Radio giving way to Red FM, Legends replacing Kirula Radio, not to mention the latest radio station being Fox FM 91.4 which launched early December.

Not forgetting the fate of channels such as Siyatha TV, ETV & You TV where Siyatha TV was we believe a failed attempt at rebranding with the agreement not falling through, the "Sky is the Limit" still hasn't materialized on ETV plus You TV still not launching any other programming except for news via France 24 calls into question the fate of these channels in 2014. Hopefully they get their act together and pull off a few surprises in 2014.

The disappointment of Everlasting Radio not being allocated a frequency even after the much hyped frequency allocations of 2012.

2014 will be a critical year for some TV & Radio channels where they either get their act together or drop out of the picture totally.

One disappointment is the lack of progress on digitization which needs to be carried out much faster, with the world saying goodbye to analog TV & Radio it's time for Sri Lanka to also say good bye.
