Jetwing Kurulubedda - The Little Hideaway

And so we hit the south. Down south! But this time we visited a land side quaint little hotel called the “Jetwing Kurulubedda” to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary.
Kurulubedda is a beautiful chalet style hotel with 2 villas that is perfect for the honeymooner or just about any couple looking to rejuvenate and refresh themselves. The rural village atmosphere when entering the premises excites you just a tad bit further because it ensures that you are basically point blank away from the hustle and bustle of daily life! (Even though the place is not really far off from Colombo thanks to our ever loving southern expressway.)
My husband and I love scrutinizing hotels and we hardly ever call a hotel perfect. I would say I am much more lenient than he is in our own little rating process. And who cares? No one! However, I thought I’d mention some key points we did observe, just in case anyone finds it useful when planning out a getaway.
So KB (I.e. Kurulubedda, in case you forgot all thanks to my bleh bleh bleh bleh), in a nutshell is a place that basically reminds me of a less luxurious version with the potential to be Jetwing Vil Uyana. For those of you who have not been to Vil, it is indeed an experience to be enjoyed.
Let me start with parking, there is hardly a parking area or even a sign that indicates that the hotel is indeed KB. But since all check-in and outs are managed by Lighthouse hotel, there is always someone to accompany the guests at their initial arrival. (and note that there is a Kurulubedda sign on the byroad leading to the little haven)
Once you are in you will notice a little veggie patch on the way to the lounge area. This lounge is surrounded by a scenic marshy land that is just about perfect to sit down and reflect on life and love or just maybe immerse yourself in some reading!

According to our knowledge there are 2 guys looking after the property, Saman the guy who takes care of the guests (wholeheartedly) and ofcourse a cook. Unfortunately though we did not get the opportunity to taste the cooks food because we opted for the lighthouse buffet for all our meals instead.
Saman warmly welcomed us with a soothing ‘Kirala’ drink and then showed us our way to the nearby Villa 01. Before I continue I really must say that Saman is a great addition to the hotel because of his hospitality. Really makes you feel right at home! Kudos to Saman!
Your Space - The villa itself is a two story structure with the plunge pool below and room upstairs. The plunge pool was spacious and cool and ideal to be in when suffering with the hot and humid weather these days.  More importantly it was very private and almost secluded thanks to the trees and bushes surrounding the area.

The room was not the most luxurious room in the world but it was equipped with a king size bed that was so comfy we were on the verge of hunting for one just like it. There was a medium sized TV with many entertainment channels which was yet another plus point for me personally (I did not miss my ‘Packed to the Rafters’ on Star World thanks to this).
The only negative point about the room would be the fact that it is hardly spacious. (Quite small to be frank.) But the balcony compensates for this with a nice little table for two, and more cushioning and what not to just chill away. However, do watch out if you are taking kids to this place because the balcony is very low and is potentially dangerous for anyone if not careful.
(P.S Note that there is no WiFi available in KB, you gotta visit lighthouse if required)

The bathroom had a nice dimly lit ambience which set the mood for some good ol’ hanky panky. LOL okay okay fine, TMI alert!
(TMI – Too Much Information)
Oh and BTW the bathroom comes with bathrobes! You can even purchase them if by chance you want to use them at home.

As for the hotel surroundings, it’s all very picturesque. Photography options are many thanks to the lovely greenery and bird life found around the area. We particularly found the wooden deck/pathway to be ever so simple yet really added to the whole look and feel of Kurulubedda to make it a really memorable place to stay.

I know when it comes to hotels it is so true that “one man’s medicine is another man’s poison”. So when it comes to hotel hunting its more useful to look at a ton of pictures and figure out if the place really suits your thing or not.
As I mentioned before, don't forget that the Jetwing Lighthouse hotel lies by the sea just a mere kilometer away. Since all facilities can be used for free when staying at KB, lighthouse is a very welcome spot to splash away in the 2 main pools for hours (which we did) and enjoy some beach side fun! The buffet at lighthouse did not have the biggest spread since it was a weekday and also off peak season but still served to be a tasty treat.

Our final verdict of Kurulubedda is that if it is definitely the way to go if 'luxury' is not your main factor in the lookout but instead a quiet and simple little haven to wind down and recharge those batteries! I call it the little hideaway because it was just that for the both of us.
As for the price, again this is a very subjective concern. According to my treasurer of a husband the place is overpriced for the quoted rate but you get more than value for money if you go on some offer! Riddle me this? Husbands! Anyway on a serious note I completely agree with him.
Hope the photos are useful and you have yourself the perfect getaway that is just right for you!
